I always love the fact that Glasgow has a river, the Clyde, and one with such a history. These images were photographed aboard a few vessels on the river, which sadly these days doesn’t see much traffic.
In 1991, I accompanied a group of pensioners on a day trip aboard the Mv Garroch Head, a sludge ship which took treated sewage to dump at sea, and which in its long-standing tradition also took community groups for a free day out.
In 1993 and 2003, I photographed with George Parsonage, of the Glasgow Humane Society - the oldest continuing lifeboat service int he world, as he helps those in need and danger on the Clyde.
In 1996, I travelled back and forth across the Clyde, from Renfrew to Yoker, on the ‘Renfrew ferry’ - the Renfrew Rose.
I sailed, in 1991 and 1993, on the iconic P.S. Waverley, the world’s last seagoing passenger-carrying paddle steamer, as she takes her day trippers up and down the river and west coast of Scotland.
Also available as part of the Glasgow Set of 3 zines, at a discounted rate.
Many of the images have never before been printed nor published.
